MOUNTING HARDWARE

Magnetic Mounting Feet

Rubber-coated rare earth, 88mm

These are the same magnetic feet we fit to our own mounts when a vehicle has a steel roof and no rack. Each foot is a neodymium rare earth magnet, grade N38, sealed inside a steel holding pot and wrapped in a tough rubber casing, so the only thing that ever touches your paint is rubber. Every magnet bolts up into the mount base from the inside through a flush internal M8 thread. No drilling, no rails, nothing bolted through the roof.

Four or eight

Four holds it. Eight makes it a problem for anyone else.

Four magnets is what we recommend for a secure everyday installation, and it is what most vehicles leave the workshop with. It holds the mount steady on a clean steel roof and keeps things simple.

Eight is about theft. With eight fitted the holding force is high enough that the mount effectively cannot be pulled off the roof by hand. Every magnet bolts up into the mount from the inside through its flush internal M8 thread, so the only way to take the setup off is to unlock the mount, open it and undo the magnets from within. Someone standing at the vehicle has nothing to grab, lever or unscrew from the outside, which is exactly how we wanted it.

  • Neodymium rare earth, grade N38, in a steel holding pot
  • Rubber-encapsulated, so only rubber touches the paint
  • 42kg pull strength per magnet, rated against 3mm mild steel as a guide
  • Flush internal M8 thread, bolted to the mount base from inside
  • Four magnets for a secure everyday install, up to eight for maximum security
  • Steel roofs and panels only

Worth knowing

Will these hold on my roof?

Only if the panel is steel. They will not hold on an aluminium canopy, an aluminium ute tub or anything fibreglass, and a magnet on a non-steel panel is not a mounting method at all. If that is your vehicle, we have standard rack hardware and one-off brackets for exactly that reason.

Is 42kg what I get in the real world?

Treat it as a guide. That figure is measured against 3mm mild steel, and painted automotive roof panels are thinner than that, so the real holding force depends on the thickness and condition of your own panel. It is why we recommend four magnets rather than the bare minimum.

How do I look after my paint?

Wipe both the rubber face and the roof clean before you fit anything. Grit trapped between rubber and paint is the one thing that will mark a roof, and thirty seconds with a cloth avoids it.

Why eight magnets instead of four?

Security. With eight fitted the hold is high enough that the mount cannot realistically be pulled off the roof by hand, and because every magnet bolts up from inside the mount, there is nothing on the outside to grab, lever or unscrew. Someone would have to unlock and open the mount first.

If your roof or canopy is not steel, these are not the answer. Talk to us about standard rack hardware or a one-off bracket instead and we will work out the right approach for your vehicle.
